POLISH ANTARCTIC STATION
On 26 February 1977, the Henryk Arctowski Polish Antarctic Station officially began its activity on and has been functioning unceasingly until now. The scope of scientific inquiries being conducted at the station include: ecology, microbiology, oceanography, geology, geomorphology, glaciology, hydrology, meteorology and seismology. Infrastructure of the station includes also refuges and field camp. The station was operated by the Department of Antarctic Biology of the Polish Academy of Sciences (PAS) which has been incorporated into the Institute of Biochemistry and Biophysics PAS in 2012.
